  7. In my research of Thornton I found out that he and his siblings grew up in china for a while because of his fathers work. But Thornton was born in Madison Wisconsin. Growing up was hard for him because he didn't fit in very well and other kids made fun of him because he was so smart. He was not the only one in his family that was exceptionally smart; all of his siblings were very successful and smart. He published his first book in 1926 and then the next year he published another book.
