Question of the Week (12/4/09)

Fantastic job on your performance! Don't forget to read Act III, Scene I of Macbeth.
Answer the following questions:

Why does Macbeth have Banquo killed?
Why does Macbeth hire murderers to kill Banquo instead of killing Banquo himself?
What happens when the murderers try to kill Banquo and his son?
What does the ghost of Banquo do to Macbeth's paranoia?
How does Lady Macbeth make her husband feel better after seeing the ghost?

Use evidence from the text to support your answers. Bring your answers to class on Monday.

Post onto the blog your review of the performances you saw today. How did our class do? How about other classes? Remember to post and respond to a classmate's response by Sunday. Enjoy your weekend.

  1. On Friday we saw many performances, and a whole range of quality and practice throughout them. Some were well practiced and the lines were delivered with emotion, and others didn't have the feeling to it. I think that our class did a very good job with our scenes, and we were above average.
One thing that helped us that none of the other classes had was the fact that we were performing first. At the beginning of the performances people were much more into the plays, where as at the end they weren't paying attention. Also, luckily we picked scenes that no other classes picked to act out, and that was good because by the fourth time the audience saw Act IV Scene I, it was pretty boring.
Overall, I think that the whole grade did a very good job with memorizing lines, and I was impressed that the teachers played a very small role in what the students were doing on stage.

  2. I think that our class did extremely well compared to the other classes. We had fun, controlled laughter from the audience, and a relative theme. The other classes performances were irrelevant, poorly preformed/executed, and showed no talent. I also thought that the people in our group that forgot their lines handled that perfectly, which is never easy to do. I also think that it was good how we didn't try and do a theme, (for some VERY OBVIOUS reasons,) and that we didn't do an odd series of shouting, whispers and screams. GREAT JOB B.I.G. PIRO PRODUCTIONS!!!

  3. I thought our class did very well in the show. we were better than most of the classes because we made it obvious as to what we were talking about. everyone did a great job with their lines and acting them out..and generally i think people enjoyed the show. some of the other classes went overboard with their themes and the scenes/exerps they were doing.overall i thought the whole experiance was well done for the most part and our class definatly started the show off strong.

  4. I agree with Gus in that it seemed like for the most part people really enjoyed our show, and that it was easy to see what was going on, unlike some of the other classes skits. We definitely made a good impression for our class.

  5. Our class was wonderful, in that we still kept all of the traditional qualities that Shakespeare put into Macbeth, and we also made the tragedy somewhat comical which lightened the play. I agree with Gus as well. in that we made people learn something and enjoy the show a lot. It wasn't too complicated and it showed that we all worked hard. We had some slip ups like certain people (ME!) who choked and forgot their lines, but we had an excellent performance. The other plays were all very creative, and even though Henry doesn't approve I really liked the series of odd shouting and whispering! I thought it was very creative.

  6. Our play was SOOOO good. I think going first made our play...epic.
Also agreed with ethan the dark one was pretty interesting. I have to admit my least favorite was of harry and the little black dresses. Other than that everyone else's was pretty cookie cutter. The scrubs one was a little bit of a let down. It was funny but people hyped it up more than i think it deserved.

  7. I think that in general we did a really awesome job, and for going first, we did even better!!! We all had some hard lines to memorize (especially Gus) and we all did such a great job on memorizing. We also made Macbeth funny without changing lines or adding a theme, which I see as a great accomplishment.
I agree with Giulia and Ethan that Mr. Haenal's class preformance was really interesting and a very cool interpretation of Macbeth. There were some interesting themes, but overall I think the simple ones did best. Although, Harry in the dress for the Kill or No Kill was very entertaining. I still think our class did the best however :)

  8. I think that our play was AMAZING!!!!! We did a great job with our acting (with the accents and stuff) and I agree with Dewey that we had most of our lines memorized, except for the hard ones. I think that the other classes were about as prepared as we were. It was a little disappointing how almost every class picked the same scene to do, and it got old after a while. That's another reason why I think ours was really good because it was original. I'd have to say that my favorite one (other than ours) was the one with the show girls. It was pretty related to the play and it was an interesting twist that made it fun to watch. THEY WERE ALL GREAT, THOUGH!!

  9. I think that our class was one of the best! The reason being is I only had time to stick around for ours anyway. But as a class that mainly just fooled around with different ideas and themes, we pulled it together at the end and I think we did a great job overall. Also we managed to keep the feel of Shakespeare but also added some humor which makes the whole play more interesting.

  10. I agree with what Theo said about the classes all doing well. I think that we did well as a class, and so did all the other groups that performed. I especially agree with him when he said that it was a little repetitive how almost everyone performed the same scene.
With our class, I think we did a good job because even though in class it was pretty crazy, we pulled it together on the stage and ended up with a better show. Though there were some fumbled lines, it was still funny to the audience, so that, along with the accents, brought some humor into the show. Also, the fact that we were "keeping it real" was a nice touch in the end.
Again, I agree with Theo when he said that it helped when our group went first. No one knew what to expect, for one thing, and it attracted more attention because the audience wasn't getting tired of sitting in the seats.
The other classes were fairly prepared. I liked the other themes, like "Kill or no Kill," and even though many of them did the same scene, it was interesting. In particular, I enjoyed the scene where there were doctors in it because that was an interesting twist.
    Yay BIG Piro Productions!!

  11. I think our class performance was awesome!!!!We blended a little of humor into the scenes which made our performance one people will remember. I think another funny one was the scenes based off of Scrubs. The dancing was the funniest part, but I didn't understand what was going on in the play at all. I agree with Jesse how we are a pretty crazy class, but that's what made it work! ALso, I have to congratulate our class on not doing the same scenes over and over again!!! Overall, I had a blast at ShakesFest and B.I.G Piro Productions is the best!!!

  12. i think every one did a great job. every one for the most part new there lines. i think we started the show off strong and that our perfourmence set an example for the rest of the other classes. i talked to some of the other classes and they said that they loved our senes. i was not there for the whole play but i was told that it went very well. i am very proud of you all!!!!

  13. I think we did a really good job. It was a bit of a mess practicing in the classroom, but we pulled it together for the actual performance. We chose to do a good scene for Shakesfest because nobody else did it. It made our performance stand out from all the rest, who chose to do the same scenes. I liked how we didn't change too much stuff, and it was still original and funny. Some of the other classes added a lot to their performances, and that almost took away from their plays. But we did a great job yay BIG Piro Productions!!!

  14. I think we did great....even though you (Mrs. Piro) got mad at us a lot and we did "goof off" a lot to but we had a lot of fun and I think we were the best. Everyone else didn't do as good as us... we kept it real and we did a good job at that and i am amazed that are class did so well. No offense to anyone. But really all we do as a class is annoy the poooorrrr teacher.
    We were the best!
    All hail BIG Piro Productions.
